The Honest Mama Project
The "Why"
Our Founder
Breeona is a Registered Nurse and International Board Certified Lactation Consultant with advanced training in perinatal mental health, maternal-child wellness, disability support, chronic illness, patient advocacy, and end-of-life care. She has worked in healthcare for more than 12 years, including six years as a nurse, with experience spanning acute care, home health, hospice, case management, lactation, and postpartum wellness.
As a mother of three, with experiences including one hospital birth and two home births, Breeona brings both professional knowledge and personal perspective to her work in women’s and family health. Her own experiences navigating breastfeeding challenges and the maternity care system have strengthened her commitment to ensuring families feel informed, supported, and empowered throughout pregnancy, postpartum, and beyond.
Breeona is the founder of The Honest Mama Project and Ruth & Honey Co., initiatives created to help bridge gaps in healthcare through nurse-led, community-centered care, with particular attention to Black women, families, and historically underserved communities. Her work integrates education, advocacy, prevention, and compassionate clinical support to help families navigate healthcare with greater confidence and continuity.
She is currently pursuing her Master of Science in Nursing to become a Family Nurse Practitioner while continuing to provide holistic care through lactation and postpartum support, newborn and family wellness, private duty nursing, and patient advocacy.
